Badung,Sekilasmedia.com-A foreign tourist from Australia, with the initials MA (22) complained about the cost of treatment at the Bali International Medical Center (BIMC) Hospital which he considered unreasonable.
The complaint was expressed after the male foreigner underwent a broken bone or orthopedic surgery on his right leg and was charged more than IDR 180 million.
The foreigner who lives at Villa Marguux in the Seminyak area also had to pay IDR 15 million per night for a room. Where the fantastic cost is almost equivalent to the price of renting a room per night at a five-star hotel.
To reporters, the victim (MA-ed) said that initially on Saturday (15/2) he fell off his motorbike and suffered a broken leg. Then he was approached by a taxi driver he did not know. The driver then took him to BIMC Hospital, on Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai, Kuta.
“I don’t know the man, he immediately took me to the hospital and left,” said MA, Sunday (2/16/2025).
At the hospital which was still in the medical treatment stage, suddenly there was an allegation of extortion carried out by an official from BIMC Hospital, namely bargaining over the room rental price, from the original IDR 25 million to IDR 15 million per night.
“Before the operation, the official from the hospital asked for IDR 25 million for the room rental, after I negotiated it down to IDR 20 million and finally it became IDR 15 million,” he said.
Then the operation and the installation of the pen were carried out and were successful. After the treatment was completed, the victim was allowed to go home, with the note that he had to pay off all medical costs which amounted to more than IDR 162 million.
“I was shocked, the cost inflation was unreasonable. This is more expensive than the cost of treatment in our country,” he said angrily.
He also said that the BIMC hospital was suspected of often collecting room rental fees and inflating drug costs for patients, especially foreign nationals. The unreasonable costs will be reported to the relevant parties soon.
“I will report it, this is extortion. The total costs that I have spent are almost IDR 200 million,” he said.
Separately, the Head of the Bali Provincial Health Office, dr. IGN Gede Anom, when confirmed on Monday (2/17), did not confirm the charges that the foreign man had made while undergoing treatment at the BIMC Hospital.
Based on the results of the clarification, everything that was done by the BIMC Hospital team had gone through both verbal and written approval from the patient.
“All of this is not true, so from the start it was explained regarding the estimated costs and actions that would be taken, and all were in accordance with the SOP at the BIMC Hospital,” he said.
Regarding other matters, the patient did not object. The patient even stated his agreement (written signature). Moreover, this case is not life-threatening so the hospital is allowed to convey the cost of the service in advance.
“This means that the patient accepts it, especially after the actions and medicines given to the patient there were no complaints or surprises,” he concluded.
